Avowed: All Unique Grimoires and how to get them

Avowed has six Unique Grimoires, each containing four special spells. While you don’t need these Grimoires to learn the spells, they offer a convenient mix that can match your preferred playstyle. Instead of using common Grimoires found throughout the game, these Unique Grimoires might be your best bet for optimizing your Wizard build.

All Unique Grimoires in Avowed and Where to Find Them

To help players who haven’t finished the game yet, we’ve listed the Grimoires in the order they appear in a typical playthrough. The earlier ones are found in starting areas, while the later ones require progress in the story.

Anextli's Grimoire (Found in Dawnshore)

Anextli's Grimoire is the first Unique Grimoire you’ll encounter in Avowed. It’s located on a cliff near Berath’s Gateway, accessible from the Xaurip-infested fjords near Dehengen’s Cottage (Cabin Fever quest location). Check out our guide for a detailed walkthrough on how to get it.

Spells:

• Fan of Flames
• Arcane Veil
• Grimoire Snap (Requires Grimoire Mastery Rank I)
• Missile Salvo (Requires Grimoire Mastery Rank II)

This Grimoire works best for spellsword builds that fight up close. However, since its only elemental spell is a basic Wizard spell, it’s likely a temporary option before upgrading to a better one.

Beothel's Grimoire (Found in Dawnshore)

You can buy Beothel’s Grimoire for 450 Gold from Merylin, the blacksmith’s sister in Paradis (Dawnshore). She is in the Market District near the Eastern Paradis Gate Beacon. Since it’s available early in the game, it only includes lower-level Wizard spells.

Spells:

• Corrosive Siphon
• Arcane Veil
• Parasitic Staff (Requires Grimoire Mastery Rank I)
• Blizzard (Requires Grimoire Mastery Rank I)

Blizzard is an excellent early-game spell, while Corrosive Siphon can be hit or miss. If you play a glass-cannon mage, a Grimoire of Greater Elements might be a better alternative.

Like Anextli’s, Beothel’s Grimoire leans towards spellsword play rather than full elemental destruction. It’s useful but not the best available option.

Vesrik's Grimoire (Found in Emerald Stairs)

Vesrik’s Grimoire is hidden in a cave within Wavesculpt Hollow, near the southern coast of Emerald Stairs. The easiest way to get there is by starting at the Docks Fast Travel Beacon (southeast).

From there, head west along the coastline, enter Wavesculpt Hollow, and walk under the archway through shallow water. Follow the coastline west until you see Eyes of Rymrgand on the ceiling. Shoot them down to create ice platforms, allowing you to reach an underground area where the Grimoire rests on a skeleton.

• Parasitic Staff
• Arcane Veil
• Bristling Frost (Requires Grimoire Mastery Rank I)
• Ring of Fire (Requires Grimoire Mastery Rank II)

Vesrik’s Grimoire is designed for melee-range combat, making it an excellent secondary spellbook for hybrid builds. However, for pure Wizards, it may not be worth upgrading extensively.

Od Caura's Grimoire (Found in Emerald Stairs)

To find Od Caura’s Grimoire, go to the Pargrun Cache in Emerald Stairs, west of The Wildwoods. The Grimoire is inside a chest in the final room.

• Chill Blades
• Ring of Fire (Requires Grimoire Mastery Rank II)
• Returning Storm (Requires Grimoire Mastery Rank II)
• Pull of Eora (Requires Grimoire Mastery Rank III)

Od Caura’s Grimoire is the first late-game spellbook in Avowed. With two Level 10 spells and one Level 15 spell, it focuses on crowd control. Once fully upgraded, it allows for spamming Returning Storm, making it a great choice for lightning-based Wizards.

Aurochs-Skin Grimoire (Found in Shatterscarp)

You can find Aurochs-Skin Grimoire during the main quest if you’re observant. It’s located in Ryngrim’s Domain, inside her chamber. Look at the bookshelves on the right, and you’ll find a hidden switch that reveals a secret room containing the Grimoire.

• Blast of Frost (Requires Grimoire Mastery Rank II)
• Missile Salvo (Requires Grimoire Mastery Rank II)
• Freezing Pillar (Requires Grimoire Mastery Rank III)
• Arcane Seal (Requires Grimoire Mastery Rank IV)

Aurochs-Skin Grimoire is arguably the best in the game. It includes Arcane Seal, a powerful spell for any caster build, along with two high-damage frost spells. If you love cryomancy, this is the Grimoire for you.

Eliara's Grimoire (Found in Galawain's Tusks)

To get Eliara’s Grimoire, go to The Living Archives in Galawain’s Tusks. The bridge is broken if you follow the highway from Solace Keep, so you’ll need to detour through Mt. Forja Quarry and then travel through Ash Forest.

Inside the Living Archives, the Grimoire is in a chest on the first rooftop (you may need to drop down from the top floor).

• Spirit Lance (Requires Grimoire Mastery Rank II)
• Pull of Eora (Requires Grimoire Mastery Rank III)
• Freezing Pillar (Requires Grimoire Mastery Rank III)
• Meteor Shower (Requires Grimoire Mastery Rank IV)

For players who want maximum damage output, Eliara’s Grimoire is one of the best. Freezing Pillar and Meteor Shower work well together, making it a top choice if you have the resources to sustain high Essence costs.

Best Unique Grimoires in Avowed – Ranked

Ranking the best Grimoires depends on your playstyle, as each one excels in different areas. Unique Grimoires have the advantage of higher Legendary upgrade levels, giving their spells the lowest possible cooldowns.

Based on their overall power level, here’s a tier list ranking:

Vesrik’s Grimoire ranks higher than Od Caura’s for spellsword and paladin builds, while Od Caura’s is better for lightning-based Wizards. Ultimately, the best Grimoire depends on what spells you prioritize in your build.
